A major Greater Manchester hospital had to declare its 'highest alert level' amid 'immense pressure'.
Francis Andrews, Medical Director at Bolton NHS Foundation Trust, said: “Earlier this week our services were under immense pressure, which meant we had to declare our highest alert level so that we could focus on safely providing essential services. “We know we have asked a lot of our staff and public over recent months, and will likely continue to throughout winter, so would like to thank everyone for their support.”
“No matter how busy our emergency department is, the most seriously ill and injured patients will always be seen immediately. If you choose to visit us and do not need urgent or emergency treatment, you will be safely supported to access an alternative service." "And in addition, you can always either call NHS 111 or you can go online to the website as well. And this might be particularly helpful if you're not sure whether or not you do need to visit A&E, or for example if you've got chronic health problems that you've got further questions about or longstanding illnesses that you might require more information about."
