Construction to replace sections of an 80-year-old pipeline in South Australia will be delayed until next year to ensure the habitat of a group of threatened birds is protected.
abc.net.au/news/new-threatened-birds-postpone-construction-on-pipeline-project/101370622Construction on a major South Australian pipeline project has been postponed until 2023 to protect a group of 20 newly listed threatened bird species.
The nationally endangered malleefowl is included in the threatened ecological community that inhabits an area located near the pipeline. "This community was listed late last year and information was forthcoming earlier this year," he said. Up to 34 kilometres of the pipeline is expected to be replaced in the project to maintain future water security for the state’s mid-north, Yorke Peninsula and Eyre Peninsula distribution networks.
