A street in Preston could be used to house a major development of almost 500 flats close to the city centre
.
During the 1950’s, Dryden’s foundry was still in operation with various extensions and demolitions taking place over and around the site. The following decade saw mass demolition take place in and around the site with the removal of the terrace housing facing Manchester Road. Applicants outline that the vision for the Stoneygate Opportunity Area is to "define a purpose to a currently uninspiring part of the city centre, to act as a transitional zone between residential uses to the south and the city centre core to the north".
Ground floor residential units would have their own private outdoor amenity space facing onto the link route or out onto Grimshaw Street. The residential accommodation is split into 6 no. distinctive blocks which have their own individual entrance arrangements, alongside cycle and bin storage.
