China has replaced its foreign minister Qin Gang one month after the top aide to President Xi Jinping was last seen in public.said Qin would be replaced by his predecessor, Wang Yi.
The Chinese government has not given an explanation for Qin’s removal just seven months into the job.with speculation around his absence ranging from health issues to a power struggle or an affair. Xinhua also said Yi Gang had been removed as governor of the People’s Bank of China, replaced by the central bank’s deputy Pan Gongsheng. However, Pan’s promotion had been widely expected after he was named Communist Party chief to the central bank earlier this month.Nathan Perri
The changes were made at an emergency meeting of China’s legislature which also passed changes to criminal law to strengthen the punishment for bribery and corruption. Xi signed a presidential order to execute the personnel shake-up, Xinhua said.
