Killjoy scientists have said we are still lamentably far from living a Flintstones life. 9News
Cells from a woolly mammoth that died 28,000 years ago have shown "signs" of biological activity after being implanted in mouse cells, but killjoy scientists have said we are still lamentably far from living a Flintstones life.
The mammoth was found in 2011 in Siberia, and despite the warnings of all the Jurassic Park films, scientists apparently decided it might be fun to try to bring it to life. The latest results, published in Scientific Reports, said the team at Kindai University in Japan had observed some activity, but none of the cell division that would be required to actually clone the prehistoric titan, AFP reported. The cells came from the preserved corpse of this mammoth, Yuka.
But several of the cells, implanted into mouse eggs, showed the activity that occurred just before cell division, scientist Kei Miyamoto said.Much less an adorable mouse-sized mammoth, sadly.
