Oceanside police said the crash happened about 5:25 p.m. Sunday on Oceanside Boulevard near Vine Street
A 21-year-old driver died after he crashed his pickup — which rolled over and trapped him — on an Oceanside thoroughfare Sunday afternoon, police said.
The single-car crash happened about 5:25 p.m. on Oceanside Boulevard just west of Vine Street. Police said the driver was headed west when he lost control of his Ford F-150, which rolled over and landed upside down.AdvertisementFirefighters worked to free the driver, who was unresponsive, police said. Despite their efforts, the driver died at the scene.
He was identified as a Camp Pendleton resident, but his name was withheld, pending family notifications. It was unclear whether he was an active-duty Marine. The crash prompted officials to issue a traffic alert and shut down a stretch of Oceanside Boulevard. According to the California Highway Patrol, a “hard closure” was put in place and wasn’t expected to be lifted until after 9 p.m.
Anyone with information about the crash was asked to call Oceanside police traffic investigator Ibrahim Serdah at 435-4769.
