An 87-year-old Noosa man on a Sunday walk has died after what was believed to have been a random attack on a beachside boardwalk about 6am.
Bystanders were said to have helped the man, who was left face-down with head injuries, before authorities arrived at the scene just inside Noosa Woods, north of the popular Hastings Street tourist strip.John Kerr was killed in an attack at Noosa Heads at the weekend.A 27-year-old Gympie man found on the beach about 100 metres away was taken into custody and had since been charged with seriously assaulting a 69-year-old man on Hastings Street about the same time.
“We believe he was out this morning having a walk when the tragic circumstances occurred,” Sunshine Coast Detective Inspector Chris Toohey told reporters near the scene on Sunday afternoon.“We’re speaking with his next of kin at this stage.”Toohey refused to be drawn on the nature of the attack, the search, whether any weapons had been used or found, or any potential motive, saying the investigation was only in its early stage.
Police have asked for witnesses or any businesses or homeowners with CCTV footage captured between midnight and 6am to come forward.Police were expected to provide a further update on the incident later on Monday.
