A man who allegedly fatally shot a police officer at a rural property near the South Australian-Victorian border had an undiagnosed mental health condition at the time, his lawyers have said. Lawyers for Jaydn Harley Stimson said outside Adelaide Magistrates Court the 26-year-old has admitted to firing the shot that killed Brevet Sergeant Jason Doig, 53, of Lucindale Police Station at Senior in November 2023.
Doig died at the scene while a 59-year-old police officer suffered non-life threatening injuries, and a third police office was not injured. Stimson was himself shot by police during the incident and was flown to Royal Adelaide Hospital with life-threatening injuries. He was later charged with murder over the shooting of Doig and attempted murder over the injured officer.
