The court heard the 21-year-old initially told police the day after the crash he could not remember what happened because "he was asleep".Mr Kokozian is accused of being behind the wheel of his father's Mercedes when it crashed head-on into a Toyota Echo, killing Alina Kauffman, 24, and her 15-year-old brother Ernesto Salazer.Siblings Alina Kauffman, 24, and Ernesto Salazer, 15, were killed in a crash in Heckenberg.
"Through the investigations of police … certain information has come to light whereby it appears this defendant certainly was aware of who the driver was at the time … and certainly did not assist the prosecution," he said. The 21-year-old's lawyer Elie Srour argued his client should be granted bail, telling the court he had no criminal history and the prosecution's case against him was "not overwhelming or strong".
"The police allege that at all material times the applicant was aware of who the driver was and failed to provide that information to police," he told the court. He told the court Mr Davis-Tuka had since refused "to supply any further information" to police about the crash.
