Police working to disrupt the illicit tobacco trade in Queensland have arrested a man accused of firebombing a Fortitude Valley convenience store.

Officers allege the man captured on security camera storming into the tobacco store on Wickham Street is 34-year-old Michael Ryan Warburton and accused him of assaulting the owner.Police now allege Warburton was a part of an organised crime syndicate.The 34-year-old's lawyer argued the arsonist seen stumbling from the store alight would have burns to his foot and claimed his client had no such injuries."The evidence seems quite lacking, so we'll just have to wait for the brief.

Police have since warned tobacconists across the state's south-east to contact police if they suspect they are being targeted.
