A daily 5-minute news wrap for English learners and people with disability. A man has been arrested in Greece in connection with a decades-old murder cold case in Sydney.

The Greek City Times reports James Dalamangas was picked up during a routine police check, ending a 27 year international manhunt. SBS Greek says the 55 year old Greek Australian was apprehended in the town of Aigio, near Patras, where he had been living off the grid under a false identity. Israel has launched strikes on Iran in retaliation for Tehran's attacks on the north of the country.

"South Australia Police have opened an investigation into the death of a man who was tasered by officers in the town of Clare. Both officers involved in the incident were wearing body-worn cameras, and the footage will be reviewed as part of the inquiry. Assistant Commissioner David O’Donovan says a taser was deployed after the 44-year-old man allegedly damaged property with a metal pole which he then used to threaten two officers.

David O’Donovan: "It means that it was ineffective, so police were then involved in going hands on with the offender, and obviously during the arrest it was then that he became unresponsive.

"David O’Donovan: "I don't know that detail. "Victorian Premier Jacinta Allan has condemned an advertising campaign against her that features the slogan "Ditch the Witch". In a social media post, the Labor premier has said the truck had been driving around Melbourne as part of what she has described as a secret and well-funded political campaign. Ms Gillard has issued a statement saying she was disgusted to see the same trope being revived.

World-renowned melanoma pathologist Richard Scolyer has died following a lengthy public battle with brain cancer. In a final letter, Professor Scolyer has thanked his wife Katie and their children, and urged governments to continue funding medical research. He's also offered a state funeral for the former Australian of the Year, which the family has accepted.

"He continued to work right up until the very end, until it was impossible, but spent, as I spoke with Katie this morning, his final days with family still in good humour, and with the strength, determination, and character that defined what is an extraordinary legacy. May he rest in peace.

"More than 900 Australians have been recognised for their exceptional contribution to the country in the 2026 King's Birthday Honours List. She has been honoured for her service to aged welfare through her work supporting the well-being of older members of the Indian community.

"To me, especially being Punjabi from a Sikh family, and a woman with brown skin coming from a little town at the foot of the Himalayas, it's a great honour to be able to speak up and get this award. It's not mine, it's for our community. And to me, it really, really gives our community a respect which they truly deserve. "
