A 25-year-old man who allegedly plotted to import a haul of methamphetamine worth $74 million into Australia last year has been arrested and charged with a litany of offences.
A 25-year-old man who authorities say plotted to import 80 kilograms of meth, as well as allegedly trafficking MDMA , cocaine and ketamine and laundering $850,000, has been arrested and charged with a litany of offences.
After the meth was removed, the shipment was allowed to proceed to its intended destination, with authorities observing the 25-year-old at a nearby location during delivery and making an arrest. They also allege he laundered about $850,000 which police believe was obtained from criminal activities. The charges included various drug trafficking crimes, possession of drugs and dealing with the proceeds of crime.
"The seizure of 80 kilograms of methamphetamine not only kept our communities safer, but it deprived a criminal syndicate of millions of dollars that could be used to fund other illegal ventures or enjoy lives of luxury while law-abiding citizens face cost-of-living pressures," AFP Detective Superintendent Jason McArthur said.
"The damage caused by the use of methylamphetamine ripples throughout the community, and it does not just affect those using the drug.
