Detectives have arrested a 31-year-old man at the end of a two-day manhunt following the stabbing death of a gifted rugby league player in front of his family.
A man has been arrested over the stabbing death of a gifted rugby league player in front of his family on a busy inner west street.
Detectives on Wednesday arrested a 31-year-old man in relation to the death of Sitaleki Filihiahekava, who was stabbed on Marrickville Road at about 7.40pm on Monday. The man is assisting police with inquiries and no charges have been laid.Police launched an urgent manhunt for Filihiahekava’s alleged killer after the popular rugby player was stabbed during a “brief encounter” with his attacker, who fled the scene.

RIP Leki ... you will be missed by everyone at Mascot Juniors RLFC.” Anyone with information about Filihiahekava’s death or was in the area at the time and may have dashcam or mobile phone footage is asked to contact Marrickville Police Station or Crime Stoppers on 1800333000.
