Police arrested a man before uncovering suspected stolen bikes and reuniting one with its owner.
A stolen bicycle was reported to Hertfordshire Constabulary on March 7, at around 12.50pm, after its chain was cut through outside Watford Leisure Centre in Peace Prospect.
The theft was part of a wave of bicycle thefts in the area which led police to plan a covert operation the next day involving Operation Scorpion officers, a largely plain-clothed unit that targets burglars, robbers, drug offenders and people involved in vehicle crime.The force arrested a man on suspicion of attempted theft and took him into police custody.
They then searched an address and found the same bike that was stolen on March 7 among multiple suspected stolen bikes.Sergeant Craig Butler said: “One of our officers immediately recognised this bicycle, as it had been security marked at one of our free bike marking events less than two weeks ago.
