A two year prison sentence was suspended
A man has avoided an immediate prison sentence despite trying to meet a nine-year-old "girl" for a sexual encounter. In November 2021 Struan Taylor engaged in online communication with someone he believed was the mother of a young girl.
Taylor, previously of Kettering, believed that the mother would let him sexually abuse her child and sent her sexual images of himself - as well as explaining in detail what he wanted to do when they met. However, the “mother” was an undercover police officer, and on January 25, 2022, officers executed a warrant at Taylor’s home address where he was arrested, and his electronic devices seized.
Following an investigation, he was charged with one count of arranging/facilitating an offence of causing/inciting a child under 13 to engage in sexual activity which he later denied. After being found guilty of the offence by a jury at Northampton Crown Court in February this year, Taylor was sentenced at the same court last week to two years in prison, suspended for two years, and 100 hours of unpaid work.
Detective Inspector Matt Haworth said: “The messages that Struan Taylor sent to this undercover officer were very disturbing and therefore I am really pleased that he has been brought to justice. Although thankfully, there was not a real child in this case, that does not lessen the seriousness of it at all because Taylor fully believed he was talking to someone who would let him sexually abuse a nine-year-old.
“I hope this case reassures the public that we work proactively at Northamptonshire Police to bring people like Taylor to justice and that we do not simply wait for cases to come to us. We will continue working hard to keep our children in Northamptonshire safe and to bring anyone who threatens that safety to justice.”READ NEXT:
