The man allegedly shot at police with a high-powered rifle, before being taken down by tactical officers and a police dog.
Superintendent Michael Cruse told reporters this morning that the 26-year-old man took the car in Snake Valley, near Ballarat, yesterday before driving to the Melton area around 2.30pm.
Cruse said the man was unsuccessful and was tracked to Leon Drive, where he allegedly fired shots at police. "We were quick to lock down the surrounding area and then called the special operations group and critical incident response who attended and were able to take control of that location.""He was behaving erratically in the backyard of the premises," Cruse said.
The man fired at police once again before officers returned fire. The police dog was also deployed to assist in the arrest.
