South Australia Police have charged a man with attempted murder after he allegedly attacked a female officer with a sword in Port Augusta, about three hours south east of Adelaide.
A 30-year-old man has been charged with attempted murder after he allegedly attacked a female police officer responding to reports of a domestic disturbance in South Australia with a sword.
In a statement, authorities alleged he then attacked both officers with a sword, landing a"serious" blow to the policewoman's left arm.The female officer was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment, but was later airlifted to Royal Adelaide Hospital due to the severity of her injuries.The man was arrested at the scene and later charged with two counts of attempted murder and hindering police.

"Policing is an inherently dangerous occupation because of the nature of some incidents officers are called to, but an incident of this nature highlights the risk police face on a daily basis serving the community," he said.
