Police have charged a man over an incident that triggered a massive emergency lockdown in Cairns earlier this week. A man was allegedly shot on Collin Ave in Edge Hill about 1pm on Thursday following a two-car crash involving a black Audi and a white car. “It will be alleged two vehicles collided and one person discharged a firearm at another person before leaving on foot,” police said. The incident sparked a major lockdown as police hunted the shooter.
A Public Safety Preservation Act was introduced, locking down a school, as heavily armed police including Special Emergency Response Team officers attended. Police said a 43-year-old man was located later that day with a non-life threatening single gunshot wound to the leg.
