According to Akron police, Dakinga York shot Veronica Bell, 45, on Aug. 12.
“The victim, in my opinion, like any friend would, tried to de-escalate or tried to prevent anything from happening,” said Lieutenant Michael Miller. “For whatever reason, Mr. York decided to use a handgun to solve people problems.”
Miller says it is believed an argument between a woman and York broke out, starting verbal and turning psychical.When officers arrived on the scene, Bell was outside on the ground. Police rendered first aid until EMS transported her to Cleveland Clinic Akron General Medical Center.Miller called the incident a tragic case, one highlighting a larger issue.
“It just brings and renews that ongoing communication that communities like ours need to have, communities that neighbor ours need to have, an ongoing discussion to curb gun violence in particular,” said Miller.Copyright 2023 WOIO. All rights reserved.
