Man United enter the final week of the summer transfer window with a left-back top of their shopping list and Erik ten Hag has identified three potential targets.
Manchester United never expected to need a left-back this summer but circumstances beyond their control have them scrambling for a late addition.
Among those is Marcos Alonso, who is currently at Barcelona after joining them on a free last summer. The 32-year-old has Premier League and European experience, having spent six years at Chelsea before his move to the Nou Camp. While primarily a right-back, Cancelo has played more than his fair share of games as a left-sided defender and can operate comfortably in both roles. Under Pep Guardiola at City, he mastered the inverted role that saw him drift into central midfield.
That eventuality could lead chiefs at the Nou Camp to sanction his loan exit this summer, essentially removing his wages from the books and freeing up space for arrivals. United may end up being the main beneficiaries of that decision.
