Latest Manchester City news as calls for sport tribunal hearings to be made public ahead of City's FFP fate
Sports lawyer Nick de Marco KC has insisted that sport tribunals should be made public to avoid any suspicions over decisions made. Right now, tribunals are held behind closed doors with the verdict then made public.
The charges are from matters between 2009 and 2018 with the club vehemently denying the allegations and vowing to clear their name. The case does not have a precedent, so if found guilty, it is unclear what the punishment could be. It could be as serious as a huge point deduction or the club even being kicked out of the Premier League.
In June, it was revealed that the club were launching legal action against the Premier League over its recently passed associated party transaction rules that gained the approval of the 14 majority needed to bring it into competition law. De Marco has insisted that sport tribunals ruling should change to inspire more confidence, rather than the suspicion that naturally arises at the moment. Speaking in Blackstone Chambers' sports law bulletin , he said: “Holding sports tribunals to account, under the spotlight of publicity, is just as important as holding courts to account, and sports tribunals are no less prone to bias, corruption or negligence than are judges.
