A man has admitted to killing his mother at the home they shared in Perth ’s southeastern suburbs but says it wasn’t murder because he was high on a psychedelic drug at the time. Carol Cameron, 63, was stabbed 62 times in front of paramedics who were already in the St James house trying to help her son Callum Cameron. The mother and nurse had called triple-0 for help, saying her son — who was aged 27 at the time of the attack in August 2020 — was high on DMT, a plant-based psychedelic drug .
When an ambulance arrived, officers found the man barely lucid with a vacant expression, before the situation took a violent turn. Paramedic Joseph Bowring testified in WA’s Supreme Court on Monday that “we could hear the stabbing noises”. “We could hear her scream every time she was stabbed. We saw him stabbing her,” he said. Two police officers also took the stand on Monday, with one reduced to tears as he recounted the traumatic incident
