A man in his 30s has died and a man in his 20s is clinging to life with injuries suffered in a “machinery incident” at a Queensland coal mine. The older man died instantly from head injuries at the Oaky Creek coal mine southeast of Tieri in central Queensland about 4.35pm on Wednesday. The other man suffered life-threatening head, arm and leg injuries in the “machinery incident”, according to Queensland Ambulance Service. He was flown to Rockhampton Hospital.
“We have commenced an investigation into an incident that occurred yesterday afternoon at Oaky Creek coal mine, injuring two workers,” RSHQ chief executive Rob Djukic said on Thursday morning. “Sadly, one coal mine worker has passed away as a result of those injuries. The other worker is receiving medical treatment. “Our thoughts are with the colleagues, friends and families of both workers at this time.
