A man thrown into the ocean during a boating emergency off the Perth coast on Tuesday morning has died, and a second is being treated for hypothermia. The 70-year-old was pulled unresponsive from the water by a nearby vessel that came to help when their vessel capsized off Jindalee, an outer costal suburb in the city’s north, about 6.45am. The man could not be revived.
The tragedy comes off the back of a busy 24 hours for emergency services who on Monday assisted three men from a capsized boat and were also called to a raging boat fire. Three people got into trouble off Mindarie and triggered an EPIRB just after 5.30pm. All made it safely back to shore. Earlier on Monday a luxury 21m yacht caught fire about 1km from one of Perth’s most iconic beaches, Cottesloe.
