A dramatic arrest that shut down a major Melbourne CBD intersection was sparked by a man’s erratic driving on Flinders St, say police
Social media footage from the scene earlier showed a man standing on top of his car as police approached.
Heavily armoured officers from the bomb squad examined the silver sedan, leaving both its bonnet and boot open during their investigation. Superintend Dan Trimble said police were not treating the incident as terror-related and said the man will now be interviewed by police. "Police have arrested a 26-year-old man following an incident in the Melbourne CBD today. It is believed the man was driving erratically along Flinders Street around 1.50pm," police said in an earlier statement.
"The Critical Incident Response Team and local police arrested the man at the intersection of Williams St."
