A man is fighting for life in hospital after being found unconscious with “significant” injuries on a Tasmanian street, as police continue to investigate how it occurred. The man in his 50s was found on Swanston St, New Town with “significant injuries to his torso and neck area” about 2.50am on Friday, police said. “At this stage, police believe the man was on the roadway of Swanston Street when he was struck by a four-wheel-drive vehicle,” Detective Inspector David Gill said.
Police are continuing to piece together how the incident unfolded. “Detectives have undertaken numerous inquiries including extensive door knocking and collection of CCTV, to determine the movements of the man early this morning and how he sustained his injuries,” Gill said. On Friday afternoon, police seized the 4WD vehicle believed to have been involved. It will now be forensically examined.
