An Adelaide man has agreed to pay a large fine for illegally dumping a boat in Gulf St Vincent in what the South Australian Environment Protection Authority and commercial fishers say is an example of a growing problem of people creating artificial reefs to improve fishing opportunities.
EPA investigations manager Stephen Barry said the agency believed the boat was sunk to attract fish — a practice that became illegal in 2016. "Sunken items can contain pollutants such as oils, greases and chemicals, and pose a risk to navigation and a hazard to commercial fishing equipment.
