A man has been issued a community protection warning following reports he has been harassing Watford's mayor., the man has been accused of “persistently contacting” Peter Taylor via email and turning up at his home address.
Herts Police confirmed they received several reports of harassment dating back to July 2022 in relation to an ongoing land dispute - understood to involve the Sun Clock Tower.The 58-year-old man, who has not been named by police, has been warned that if such behaviour continues he will be given a community protection notice.
Issued on January 3, the order outlined that the man should not directly contact Mr Taylor or his family either in person, via email, letters, telephone calls, text messages or social media platforms.A crime of harassment was recorded, but the victim did not wish to pursue prosecution, Herts Police said.
The dispute is believed to be about fencing that has been raised around the Sun Clock Tower in Ascot Road. The mayor and Watford Borough Council have been accused of putting it up without planning permission, but WBC said the fencing has been legally installed under permitted development rights.
