A North Queensland man is behind bars after his partner's body was found by teenagers on a dirt bush track on Saturday. 9News

The 38-year-old Townsville man was wanted for questioning over the 44-year-old mother-of-four's death and tracked down after firing a single shot into a car during an alleged act of road rage yesterday morning.

The man was found and arrested at a petrol station in Proserpine at 8.30pm last night, 300 kilometres south of where his 44-year-old partner was found in Blue Water, north of Townsville. The man is accused of firing a shot at another moving car on the Bruce Highway in Yarlboroo yesterday morning."He was driving behind this person who was a male on holiday from the Gold Coast. Both vehicles had been driving quite slow in the overtaking lane," Inspector Jason Shepherd said.READ MORE:"The police were basically able to take him by surprise," Inspector Shepherd said.

"If he's charged, it would be linked to what we call domestic violence offence," inspector Shepherd said. "But at this stage, there's no current domestic and family violence orders between the person of interest and the victim."A group of teens found the 44-year-old woman's body.
