A grand jury has indicted a Bridgeton resident in the shooting death of one man and the wounding of another in that city last October.
found Tyrese J. McNair, 21, of Bridgeton, dead in the kitchen. He had been shot in the chest and arms, and 12 shell casings were recovered near his body, police said.Derrell Martin, 20, of Bridgeton, was arrested Oct. 22 and charged with shooting both men. He was apprehended at a home in Cedarville where police said he could be seen tossing a handgun from the rear of a home into a wooded area prior to his arrest.
Prosecutors used witnesses statements and surveillance video to place Martin at the shooting scene, but his public defender called the home where the crime occurred a “known drug house” and challenged the reliability of witness statements during a hearing in October. A Cumberland County grand jury indicted Martin last month on first-degree charges of murder and attempted murder, two second-degree counts and a fourth-degree count of aggravated assault, second-degree burglary and multiple weapons offenses.Our journalism needs your support.
