Court told accused gave police a prepared statement in which he denied the complainants' claims then gave a largely ‘no comment’ response to questions put to him
A 58-year old man accused of raping one woman and sexually abusing two others went on trial in Belfast today .
The now 40-year old alleged that in the summer or late autumn of 1999 she called to Johnston’s then home in the Belfast area for an arranged driving lesson. She said she was invited into his home and noticed blankets on the floor of the front room. The prosecutor said “by her own admission she had taken drugs and alcohol” and after falling asleep in his home, she woke to find him having sexual intercourse with her that she didn’t consent to.
