Man pleads not guilty to murder, other charges in shooting at San Diego Central Library [Breaking]
A 21-year-old man accused of shooting two men — one of whom was killed — at the downtown San Diego library in broad daylight last week pleaded not guilty Tuesday to murder and other charges.
During the arraignment, Judge Aaron Katz ordered Chaney to remain held in custody without bail. The defense attorney had asked the judge to set “reasonable” bail in this case. The prosecutor pushed for the no-bail status, arguing that Chaney was a danger to the public. The backpack owner gave chase and caught up to Chaney, who, according to the prosecutor, pulled out a semi-automatic gun. The man pleaded with the gunman, who was pointing the firearm at him, saying he just wanted his car keys from the backpack, Nikoletich said.
