A man who came to the aid of a toddler whose parents were both killed in the Highland Park shooting is sharing his heartbreaking memories of the day.

Brooks said McCarthy had his eyes open and was making gargling noises, but was not otherwise responsive. Brooks said he spoke to McCarthy, telling him that Aidan was going to be OK and that he had done a good job protecting his son.“He had that kid in his arms, and his final act of his life was bravery,” Brooks said.
“He kept on saying ‘shots’ … is my dad shot? My mom shot? Kept on saying shots, shots, very simple,” Brooks said.
