A 40-year-old man appears in court after a stash of 63 weapons and an 'exorbitant' amount of ammunition are found on a property near Newcastle, as part of an investigation into native bird exports.

Police prosecutor Sergeant Justin Watson told the court Port Stephens officers assisted by federal environmental officers attended a property on Nelson Bay Road , Williamtown, on Tuesday morning, investigating the exportation of native birds.
The property was searched and the court was told 63 firearms were seized, including unregistered handguns, unregistered rifles, as well as shotguns, ammunition and firearm parts.The court heard a loaded firearm was also found in a drawer of the main bedroom in the house Mr Rankmore shared with his family.Mr Rankmore was charged with a total of 96 weapons offences.
"Some are clearly antiques, and they're described as such, but a significant number are not."The court heard $17,000 cash was found in a detached granny flat, however Mr Rankmore was not charged in relation to this.Magistrate Peach told the court that from the facts, there was significant evidence of the manufacture of firearms and images and messages on his phone for buying and selling unlawful firearms.
