The Riverside County Fire Department successfully rescued a man Saturday night after he fell about 75 feet from the observation deck at the top of the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway.
A call came in at 5:08 p.m. reporting that an adult man had fallen from the patio and slid down a hill of hard ice, the Riverside County Fire Department said via Twitter. Firefighters used a roping system to rescue the man from a landing at the top of the tram.they had successfully brought him to safety and that he was not injured. Tawny Cabral, Riverside County Fire Department spokesperson, said that the man was evaluated for hypothermia but he refused to be taken to a local hospital.
The Palm Springs Aerial Tramway is a 2.5-mile ride that begins at the Valley Station and ends at the Mountain Station while climbing over the rocky Chino Canyon on the north edge of Palm Springs and rising more than 5,000 feet in elevation. Greg Purdy, spokesperson for the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway, said that the man reportedly climbed over the railing and that this was a unique incident. “People don’t normally jump the fence,” he says.
