The incident led to huge delays on three motorways
A man in his 60s has been rushed to hospital following a 'serious crash' on the M62. Emergency services descended on the motorway this morning following a collision involving two cars near Salford.
The incident took place on the westbound carriageway, between junctions 11 at Birchwood and 12 at the Eccles Interchange, shortly after 6am. Two lanes of the motorway were closed at first. Greater Manchester Police and Cheshire Police both responded to the serious crash. Part of the motorway where fuel had been leaking following the crash had to be cleared up.The smash led to delays for a number of hours this morning, with queues eventually backing up along the anticlockwise M60 towards Simister Island. Drivers on the M61, heading from Farnworth to the M60, were also affected.
A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said: “Shortly after 6am on Monday, September 4, firefighters were called to attend a road traffic collision on the M62 westbound between junctions 11 and 12, involving two cars. Three fire engines from Eccles, Leigh and Irlam quickly attended the scene and used specialist equipment to make the area safe, where petrol had been leaking.
