Speaking to the Manchester Evening News about the moment he heard the heartbreaking news, Spooky’s owner said: “I was shocked. I couldn’t believe what had happened to him. I’d seen him a couple of days earlier and he was healthy and happy. The worst case scenario I was expecting was a fine from the police, not this.
Spooky’s owner claims he took over ownership of Spooky in July last year from his uncle, his mother’s brother, after he became too unwell to take care of him. He said he did not know who his uncle bought Spooky from but that he believed he was purchased from a breeder in Manchester where his uncle lives. On his decision to help care for Spooky, he said: “I’m an animal lover. I’ve had dogs before including rescue dogs. I’ve always loved dogs no matter what breed.
GMP has confirmed to the M.E.N that police received a report that a dog was loose near Hough End playing fields on Tuesday, February 13. Spooky’s owner told the M.E.N he got Spooky microchipped on February 2 at a GoVets clinic and claims that the microchip was registered to his mum’s address. He said he did not know why Spooky was found to be registered to an owner in Reading by police.
