Man shot and killed by officer at Gulfgate Mall after charging at him with tire iron, police say

A man was shot and killed, after being removed from a restaurant, returning with a tire iron and charging at a uniformed officer Sunday at Gulfgate Center Mall in southeast Houston, police said. After being removed, the suspect was seen coming back in with a tire iron around 11:10 p.m., Houston Police Assistant Chief Yasar Bashir said, catching the attention of one of the workers, who immediately informed a uniformed Liberty County District Attorney Office investigator, who was working as security.The suspect then charged toward the officer, Bashir said. When the suspect was at arm's length, the officer discharged his weapon multiple times.

There were no customers in the restaurant at the time of the shooting and there was a second uniformed officer in the restaurant from the Plum Grove Police Department, who was also working.Featured Crime Stories
