Brisbane's CBD is in lockdown after police shot dead a man witnesses say was threatening people with a knife

Brisbane's CBD is in lockdown after police shot dead a man, after he stabbed another person. The shooting happened outside the Westin Hotel on Mary Street in Brisbane's CBD at around 10am. A witness told the ABC multiple shots were fired.

"I was coming back through the alley and heard this shooting," he said."We moved pretty quickly when we heard the shots, and there were a lot of them." Another witness said they saw police ask the man to put down the knife he had used to stab a person. The witness said when he failed to comply, the man was shot by police. "I came outside and I saw someone lying on the ground and were performing CPR," the guest told AAP.

Police have yet to provide more information about what happened as they secure the site, although they have warned motorists and pedestrians to avoid Mary St and Edward St.
