Forgotten Manchester United man suffered more heartache after a difficult season
Altay Bayindir 's season went from bad to worse after his desperate role for Turkey in their Euro 2024 clash against Portugal on Sunday.
Turkey were already 1-0 down when Bayindir came bounding off his line, only for defender Akaydin to pass the ball back, only for the two players to get in a mess. Akaydin's pass evaded the goalkeeper and rolled agonisingly over the line before he could recover. “The defender doesn’t look where the goalkeeper is and I have to say, when a goalkeeper converges when there’s not a lot of space between the ball and the defender, it very rarely ends well,” said Neville. “It’s a poor cocktail and I have to say, the goalkeeper really should stay where he is.”
United's hunt for a goalkeeper last summer ended with two new shot-stoppers coming through the door to replace David de Gea and Dean Henderson. Andre Onana signed for £43.8million from Inter Milan, as a trusted lieutenant of Erik ten Hag, having played under him at Ajax.
