Birmingham City have appointed the Man United legend as their new manager
Manchester United supporters are rooting for one of their all-time greats to make a successful return to English football.
Manager John Eustace was sacked despite keeping Birmingham up against all odds last season and getting off to a solid start to the campaign. City earned back-to-back wins by beating local rivals West Bromwich Albion at the weekend - but Eustace was still given the bullet.ALSO READ: The hopes of a nation rest on four former United players
“When this happens, the best thing to do is to part company. The timing of the decision allows the incoming manager sufficient time to evaluate the playing staff ahead of the January and summer transfer windows.” The Man United legend will return to the UK for the first time since his turbulent spell at Derby County. Rooney earned plaudits for steering the club through financial ruin and almost escaping relegation despite a threadbare squad and 21-point deduction. A stint across the pond ended after Rooney failed to reach the MLS play-offs but that has not deterred the American investors from appointing their man.
