Man United invested a large sum into signing Andre Onana last summer but they might need another new goalkeeper.
The quirk of that is Heaton is the oldest player to make his senior bow, making that appearance in December 2021 at 35. Although Heaton came through United's youth ranks, he failed to make his first-team debut under Sir Alex Ferguson. He departed in 2010 to join Cardiff City and played for Bristol City, Burnley and Aston Villa before returning 'home' to Manchester on a free transfer in the summer of 2021.
"I was hoping it was going to come early but I’ve been working for a long time for this moment and it was great to be out there tonight. Playing at Old Trafford in front of a capacity crowd, you know, it was always going to be a great feeling. It was always going to be difficult for Heaton to 'kick on' considering his ranking in the pecking order and he's been restricted to just two appearances since then. They both came in the Carabao Cup last season and United exercised their option to extend his contract, which meant another campaign in a back-up role.
