Man United have a very important, but obvious, decision to make on left-back Alvaro Fernandez ahead of the transfer window closing next week.
After it was confirmed that Tyrell Malacia would miss Manchester United's pre-season tour of the United States through injury, Alvaro Fernandez's eyes must have lit up.
Therefore, Malacia's injury ahead of the tour of the US immediately lifted Fernandez up the pecking order and secured him a place on the plane, joining fellow left-backs Luke Shaw and Brandon Williams in making the trip across the Atlantic. The 20-year-old, however, may have been left thinking he'd had a wasted journey by the time he stepped foot back on Manchester tarmac at the end of the trip.
Fernandez, in total, featured in half of United's eight friendlies over the summer, starting four times, being named in the starting line-up against Leeds United, Lyon, Wrexham and Athletic Bilbao. A common theme with those four friendlies, however, was that not one of them featured a full-strength squad.
That means United will be left with a potentially difficult decision to make on the former Madrid youngster ahead of next Friday's 11pm transfer deadline. Presuming Williams seals an exit, do they keep Fernandez as cover in case Shaw or Malacia get injured, or do they send him out on loan again and allow him to continue his development?
Burnley, for example, had Chelsea's Ian Maatsen on loan last season and are yet to replace him, meaning the Clarets would be a viable option for Fernandez if they were to come calling. United will find out much more about him by granting him the opportunity to get regular game time again.
