A man believed to have started a Newcastle nightclub super-spreader event has been fined $10,000 for allegedly dodging COVID-19 isolation orders.
Hundreds of people have been infected with the virus after attending Argyle House nightclub in Newcastle.But he allegedly attended Newcastle’s Argyle House nightclub that night and a private residence on December 11.The man was issued with two penalty infringement notices, totalling $10,000, for allegedly failing to comply with the health orders.
He said the outbreak may have been started by a person who failed to isolate after attending a Sydney Harbour party boat cruise that has been linked to Omicron cases.NSW Health believe a Sydney harbour party cruise on December 3 has led to the spread of COVID-19 across a number of venues.Earlier on Thursday, NSW reported 1742 new COVID-19 cases which represented its highest daily total since the pandemic began in 2020.
“We urge the local Newcastle community to seriously consider deferring any social events in Newcastle until after Christmas in order to help keep family Christmas gatherings safe, and to help protect their loved ones, the vulnerable and our essential workers.”On Wednesday night, NSW Health said multiple cases had been associated with a new venue in Newcastle.
