New details emerge about the chaotic scenes in the mental health unit at Canberra Hospital when 38-year-old Dusko Culibrk was allegedly murdered by a fellow patient.

Aleu Mapiou, who was 18 at the time of Mr Culibrk's death in November 2022, today entered a plea of not guilty to murder by reason of mental impairment via his lawyer, who spoke for him. The report also said "… indications of extensive blunt force injury to the deceased's head were of a type typically seen in interpersonal violence with use of hands, fists, feet and other parts of an assailant's body, and impacts against surfaces".Hospital staff tried to revive Mr Culibrk for more than 50 minutes, but without success.
Later in the day, the two men had been watching television together quietly as nurses carried out their checks.
