First responders and the Lithuanian Ambassador to Australia has met the man who had his leg amputated after being trapped for over 20 hours in Tasmania's Franklin River while on a rafting adventure.
The rescue involved 53 winches — a record number for a single operation in Tasmania .Australia's Lithuania n ambassador has travelled from Canberra to Hobart to visit the man at the centre of last month's rescue operation on the Franklin River , which ended in the man's leg being amputated at the knee.
"He was asking, 'what was my reaction? What they did, and what his Lithuanian team members did," Mr Degutis said."This particular rafter who was so strong, he was able to recover from the 20 hours of 8-degree Celsius water which was streaming over him all the time," he said."But yes, he survived, and he goes full gas forward.
He said while visiting in hospital, the group discussed survival movie 127 hours, which similarly resulted in an amputation. Speaking on Monday, Mr Degutis thanked the emergency response team for its efforts to rescue the stranded rafter.
