An investigation by sheriff’s detectives found evidence that the crash was not an accident.
A Tahoe-area man released on bail after allegedly running away from a car crash was re-arrested and accused of deliberately trying to drive off a cliff with a teenager he had just assaulted.
He fled on foot, leaving an injured teenage passenger in the vehicle, and scuffled with Washoe County sheriff’s deputies who attempted to detain him, the sheriff’s department said. But an investigation by sheriff’s detectives found evidence that the crash was not an accident: The man had sexually assaulted the passenger shortly before the crash, they allege, and intended to drive off the cliff with her.
