Man who smuggled weapons through LBA was caught by smoking on plane

Arshad Khan was confronted by cabin crew staff who could smell smoke

A man who was confronted for smoking in a plane toilet was disocvered trying to smuggle a knuckleduster and taser into Turkey.

Prosecutor Harry Crowson told Leeds Crown Court on Wednesday: "He returned to his seat and cabin crew tried to challenge him about the smoking and he denied it but they continued to try and discuss and ask where the end of it [the cigarette butt] was. He refused to answer questions and he became more defensive and more aggressive."

"As a result, he was removed from the plane and his luggage was taken to be searched and he was interviewed by border force officials." Mr Crowson said Khan, of Wycliffe Gardens, Shipley, had 20 convictions for 56 offences on his record. He said he went to plead guilty to possession of a prohibited weapon and possession of an offensive weapon on the day of trial.
