Eating and drinking habits at Manchester Airport are changing as passengers lean towards vegan options, 'gut health' shots and avoid an “overly boozy experience”

Indulging in a pint of beer before your flight at the airport is a holiday tradition embraced by many, but passengers at Manchester Airport are starting to embrace booze-free or low alcohol options instead. Consumer trends data from Manchester Airport s Group - which owns and operates Manchester, London Stansted and East Midlands Airports - has revealed costumers are making more health-conscious choices at the airport.

The traditional pre-flight glass of fizz, lager or wine isn’t going anywhere, though, as year-on-year beer sales have increased at almost exactly the same rate as passenger volumes in first six months of the year, at around nine per cent.Manchester-based brewery Seven Bro7hers Brewing Co, which has beer houses in Middlewood Locks and MediaCityUK, Saford, and Ancoats, opened their partnership bar at Manchester Airport’s new T2 Departure Lounge.

“We see increasing demand for vegan dishes and foodie twists on classic pub food. People don’t want a bland or overly boozy experience either - our food pairings with the craft ales, for example, have proven very popular this year, and we have seen increasing demand for lower ABV beers. Elsewhere, trends indicate a preference for vegan cuisine. Across all three of MAG’s airports, sales of vegan breakfasts and brunches are up more than 20per cent on last year, with Giraffe, at Manchester Airport, seeing an eight-fold increase. The Smoky Vegan Chilli, served at the Windmill, London Stansted, is a particular hit, with sales up 167per cent year-on-year, while the Vegan Hot Dog at Manchester’s Lion & Antelope venue is up 90per cent.
