In a statement posted online on Friday, the club said it was "delighted" with Amorim's appointment which was "subject to work visa requirements". Amorim has been described by football pundits as one of the most highly-rated young coaches in European football, after a 13-year playing career that included three Primeira League titles with S.L. Benfica and 14 appearances for the Portuguese national team.
